Creating exterior walls

Though really, we could do these next steps click where it has the picture of the wall. You'll now notice that it's now executed the Wall command. Now, underneath Properties, there's this pull-down list and it's called the type-selector list. From here, you have all the walls that are loaded already inside of this project environment. What I'd like to do is go through the process of creating our exterior walls. Now these aren't the foundation walls, they're the actual walls that'll be sitting on top of the foundation walls on the outside of our building. Now these buildings will be made up of a combination of brick and wood stud, as well as siding and wood stud. Since one of our options will be brick and wood stud, I want to select on the Exterior - Brick on Wood Stud. Now select on Edit Type. Your type properties will show the way that your walls are actually constructed. Now there's a good chance that when you selected on that button, what you really saw was a menu that look like this menu right here. But to generate a preview of the way that your wall will look, in the lower left-hand corner, there's an option here called Preview. If you click on that button, you'll get a preview of your wall. Now it may look like this preview, and this is the way that your wall looks in a plan view. But if you select on where we have View, there's an option here, and right now it says Floor Plan. If you change it to Section, you'll then be able to see the wall the way that it looks in a section view. Next, underneath Construction, we can see that there's an option here for Structure. Click on the Edit button next to Structure. These are each of the individual layers If you click here inside of the view, Also, this is where the materials it'll then open up your Material Browser, this button down here, which allows you to open this button down here, which allows you to open and close the Asset Browser, and you click, will allow you to see a much wider range of materials that you can load into your project environment. By the way, if you would click on any of the materials, and I'm not going to actually select on this button next, but if you would select on the button that shows up here on the side, it would then bring in and replace it would then bring in and replace whatever material that you currently had highlighted whatever material that you currently had highlighted with the material that you have listed over here that you click the double arrows next to. that you click the double arrows next to. For the most part, you'll have most of the materials that you'll ever need if you just go into the Asset Browser and then find the material that you want, and then find the material that you want, and bring it into your project. Something else to know is, Something else to know is, here inside of the Material Browser, is that the reason why the brick in this case will look red, is because the color red is here. This Foreground pattern, that's the reason why the brick will have why the brick will have that brick-looking material associated with it. that brick-looking material associated with it. And then, the Cut Pattern, that's if you take a section through the brick wall, that's why the brick will have these lines going at an angle going through the brick. Now I'll just leave this as a Brick Common and click on OK. Now one thing that I am going to change is instead of for this lumber that's making up the wall, instead of it being 5 1/2 inches, in the part of the world that I live in, it's actually 3 1/2 inches. 5 1/2 inches gives you extra strength, but also allows you to have extra insulation, but for the construction that we're doing, the 3 1/2 inches will be just fine for the 3 1/2 inches will be just fine for holding up this building and it'll give us enough holding up this building and it'll give us enough insulation for the part of the world that I'm in. insulation for the part of the world that I'm in. You'll notice that with this 3 1/2 being changed, You'll notice that with this 3 1/2 being changed, that means if you click inside of the box over here, that means if you click inside of the box over here, you can then see it update with the appropriate thickness you can then see it update with the appropriate thickness that you assigned it over here. that you assigned it over here. Now I like the wall the way that it is. Now I like the wall the way that it is. I don't plan on adding any more materials, I don't plan on adding any more materials, but if I had, I would have just selected but if I had, I would have just selected on the Insert button here. on the Insert button here. That would have inserted in another material, That would have inserted in another material, which I could've then moved up or down which I could've then moved up or down so that it would be in the appropriate location, so that it would be in the appropriate location, and then, assign the appropriate materials and then, assign the appropriate materials or thicknesses to those materials to make up your wall. or thicknesses to those materials to make up your wall. Now that our Basic Wall, Exterior - Brick on Wood Stud Now that our Basic Wall, Exterior - Brick on Wood Stud has been created, I'm going to click on OK, has been created, I'm going to click on OK, and click on OK one more time. and click on OK one more time. Now the next thing that I'll do is click here. Now the next thing that I'll do is click here. And I can see that there's an option here And I can see that there's an option here for Wood Siding on Wood Stud. for Wood Siding on Wood Stud. I'm going to click on that. I'm going to click on that. Next, I'm going to go to Edit Type, Next, I'm going to go to Edit Type, click on the Edit button next to Structure, click on the Edit button next to Structure, and you'll notice that it always keeps and you'll notice that it always keeps your previous View setting your previous View setting for that session of Revit that you're in, for that session of Revit that you're in, so in this case we can still see a section of the wall. so in this case we can still see a section of the wall. If I click on the Edit button over here, If I click on the Edit button over here, I like the way that this is actually constructed. I like the way that this is actually constructed. We can see that right now We can see that right now it just says Siding, Clapboard for a material. it just says Siding, Clapboard for a material. If I wanted it to be a vinyl siding, If I wanted it to be a vinyl siding, I could click on the little button I could click on the little button and try to do a search for a vinyl siding and bring it in. and try to do a search for a vinyl siding and bring it in. But I like the Siding, Clapboard so I'll leave it as it is. But I like the Siding, Clapboard so I'll leave it as it is. But just like we did with the other wall, But just like we did with the other wall, I don't want this wall to be 5 1/2 inches in thickness, I don't want this wall to be 5 1/2 inches in thickness, I want it to be 3 1/2 inches in thickness, I want it to be 3 1/2 inches in thickness, so I'll change it to 3 1/2 inches. I'll click on OK. I'll click on OK. It's made its adjustment. It's made its adjustment. I can see that the total wall width, which is all the materials that make up that wall, which is all the materials that make up that wall, is now 5 1/4 inches, which is fine with me. is now 5 1/4 inches, which is fine with me. I'll click on OK to that. Now that wall exists, and we can see that it's Wood Siding on Wood Stud. I'll hit the Esc key once, and that's the process that you use and that's the process that you use in order to create your exterior walls for your building.
