Adding rooms to the floor plan

And you'll see how all of this starts to develop in our level one room plan. Little bit of housekeeping just before we start though. I've got the 1031 SE Madison_03.rvt loaded. You can see it at the top of the screen there. Make sure you download the 03 model because it's got all the information in it that you need for this chapter. Remember I'm saving the file for you each chapter Remember I'm saving the file for you each chapter as we go along step by step so that you start each chapter where we left the last chapter. So remember that you've got to have the 03.rvt file open. Now we're in the level one room plan like we've been for the last x number of videos. We're now going to add some rooms to the floor plan. Now in order to do this, our walls have to be, Now in order to do this, our walls have to be, as I said, bounding walls. That's really important. Now, the good thing is, I know that all of these walls Now, the good thing is, I know that all of these walls that we've got in here are bounding walls. So I know that whenever I place a room, it will place the room inside the walls. We're going to zoom into the restroom area here first. So let's zoom in here like so and you can see the tiling there and the good thing is when I go to the architecture tab into the room and area panel and click on room, when I come in here, it picks up the room straight away. Now the benefit I've got is I can go up here and change the tag just before I place the room. And now can you see it's placing just the room? Can you see that? The name is room. Now, it's a default name so when I click there like that, you can see it's just a room. And when I come in here, click there, again notice that you can align them in as well, which is really useful. So if I come in there and click there like so. Just hit escape a couple of times now just to cancel the command and when you zoom out, you'll see that you've got two rooms quite literally called room. Now obviously you want to make sure that they are set up as the appropriate restrooms. So we zoom in and we select the tag, remember. We want the tag. So there's the tag and it says room tag with name only. How do I edit that? Well, I can do it in two ways. I can, just by hitting escape, select the room itself like that and use the identity data. So this will be the ladies' restroom. So you want to change this to something along the lines of restroom ladies. So we'll put that in. There's restroom and then a dash and then ladies like so. Or you might put female, male and female restrooms. It's entirely up to you. I think actually, to be honest, female sounds better. So we'll put that in. So we'll put that in. So we'll make sure that that's spelled correctly. And remember to do that pressing enter, okay? You must press enter first and then click on apply and that will update. There's our restroom female. So what we can now is we can go over here to this one, hit escape to deselect first though, and I'll show you a different way of changing the name of the room. Well, coming to the tag now, there's the tag, if I double click on it, I can edit it this way as well. So if we've got restroom dash male in there like that, and press enter, can you see it says restroom male now? and press enter, can you see it says restroom male now? Hit escape to deselect now and I'll just zoom out a little bit. If I now select that room, you'll notice restroom male is in the identity data and it's also in the list as well. Now the good thing about that is it means that I can just double click on a room tag, edit it, and it'll automatically put that information in the list for me. So what I'm doing there is I'm adding these new rooms as I go to the floor plan. So let's just hit escape a couple times, make sure that we've got nothing selected or no commands running. Just double click on the wheel to zoom extent. We're going to do one more room. So architecture tab on the ribbon, room and area, and we're going to go room here like so and we want this room here. Can you see it's rather a large room? Can you see it's rather a large room? But you're going to click about there and click there like so. And then you'll see the room tag has gone in there. Hit escape just to deselect. And you'll see it all looks a bit odd. And you'll see it all looks a bit odd. There's some information there. You can see that there's the room there like so, but what we need to look at now is the information that we've got here. So I if I click there, there's my room like so. And it's encompassing all of that area, but when I zoom in and out, can you see, it's a graphic thing? And what you'll find sometimes with your graphics card in Revit, is when you zoom further out, some of the hatching and things disappears. That's purely to allow you to zoom in and out quickly. Your graphics card is kind of saying, okay, I'm going to ignore that for the moment so that you can work faster. When you get in nice and close, you'll see it picks up all of the information like so. So don't worry about that too much. And also we're not going to worry about naming that big room that we've just set up just yet. And you'll see why in the next few videos.
