Adding grids
- [Instructor] In this video we're going to lay out a column grid using grid elements. Grid elements are datum elements that run vertically through your building. They define locations in space and each intersection can be used to locate columns or other structural elements. Now not every project needs grids. Some projects that have all load-bearing construction and no columns may be able to get away without having any grids, such as single family homes or smaller projects like that. But usually in a commercial project, you're probably going to have a grid of columns, and so using the grid tool early on to lay out that column grid is probably a pretty good thing to do in those early stages. So I'm going to work in a floor plan in this example. And here on the datum panel of the architecture tab I'll click the grid button. The keyboard shortcut for grid is gr. Now when you click the tool on the draw panel, you'll see that you can actually draw a straight line or curves or even…
