Creating a column schedule

- [Instructor] Now that we have a good grasp on adding columns, let's take a look at adding slanted columns. By setting up a two point system, we can configure the slant of our column. We'll need to configure some alternate grids or reference planes that accurately do it though. So let's start a new project, under models let's go new. Let's click browse. I'm going to grab structural analysis default and I'm going to click open. Then I'll click okay. We're in level two, let's jump down to level one. I just want to model a simple grid. So, on the structure tab, click the grid button, and draw a grid right about here. We could want here, let's turn on this other side. This is column line one. I'm going to select column line one. I'm going to click copy. I'm going to copy it this way, four feet. Select this column line here. I'm going to copy it this way four feet. Let's call this grid, 1.1. Let's call this grid two. Now I'm going to draw another grid up the middle of this. We'll call this B. I'm going to copy this up 25 feet. It's going to be A, copy this down 25 feet. That's going to be C, kind of did it funny but. We can drag these way down. We can drag these way up and I want to copy grid line two over twice. So I'm going to click copy. Go 25. We'll go 25 right there. I should have renamed those, that's okay. We'll grab this and call it three. We'll grab that and call it four. There we go. I want to add a slanted grid from column one to 1.1. To do that, let's click on the column button, structural column. We'll grab a 10 by 33. Make our height is going up to level two but let's grab slanted column. Now the first click will be level one. We don't need an offset, so type in a zero there. Second click is going to be level two. So let's go level two first and then level one we'll type in a zero. So first click is level one. Second click is level two. So 3D snapping is turned on, so uncheck 3D snapping. Pick a point on column line one. Now the second click, we have no other choice but to grab this intersection here, it's going to put it in, let's go to a 3D view to make sure it did it. It put it in. Let's go down to structural plan level one, select our column. Now we can just click copy. Let's make sure constraint and multiple are turned on, pick a point here. Pick a point here and pick a point here. Now, I just want to add a few more regular columns. Let's just go column. Let's make sure it's a vertical column now. Height is level two. Now we're just going to put them in like normal. Just skip a couple of times. We'll go to a 3D view. That's it, that's how you add a slanted column. What's nice is now if we move that grid line 1.1 that slants going to follow along with it. Save this as something, 'cause we're going to use it in the next lesson.
