Why are templates important?

- The word "template" usually refers to a pre-designed starting point or a pattern upon which a new object or work is based. Templates are used in many different contexts. Such as a stencil that you might trace to create standard lettering or a pattern you might follow in sewing a new outfit or a work plan that is used to ensure consistent results in a business venture. In all of these examples the idea is the same. We want the outcome to be similar to, or based upon, the original template. The concept is exactly the same in computer software like Revit. In Revit we use templates to begin new projects or files to ensure that these files are similar to, and consistent with, other projects and files produced by our company. Template files provide a reliable way to begin each new project file and ensure that it starts with the right collection of settings, features, and office standards.
