Adding grids

- [Instructor] In this video, we're going to lay out a simple column grid. Now, column grids are, most of the time, used to lay out where the structure goes, where the columns and beams and so on go, and they're most common in commercial buildings, but you can certainly use them in any type of project you like. But if you're working in a small-scale, residential, or small commercial project, they probably don't need a column grid, but any time you have some columns you want to locate, grids are certainly a useful tool to help you do that. So I'm going to start here in this floor plan, and I've got some walls here just to kind of guide me in the placement of these grids. On the Architecture tab on the Datum panel here, I will click the Grid tool, and the shortcut for that is g + r, if you prefer shortcuts. Now, when I run the grid tool and you look at the Draw panel, you will see that there are a few different shapes that we can draw, so we could draw a straight line or a couple…
