Unfortunately, not all dormers are just scabbed on to the face of a roof with no other purpose than to serve for aesthetics. Usually, when you see a dormer, that means we're trying to utilize as much attic space as possible, and are actually creating living spaces in an otherwise storage area. By using the Dormer Opening tool, we will actually be able to select the dormer that we're trying to project through the main roof. To get started, let's jump into our Revit roofs model, or any model that you want to put a dormer hole into your roof. Let's go to a 3D view and stay there. Zoom in on your dormer. On the Architecture tab, go ahead and click on the Dormer Opening button. The first thing Revit wants us to do, and you can tell, because it's asking us to down here, is to select a roof to be cut by Dormer Opening. Okay, so let's select our main roof. Now, Revit wants us to pick either a joined roof or a wall. Let's go ahead and select the bottom part of our dormer. Now let's go ahead…
