White balance

Not all light is the same. Different light sources shine with different color temperatures. For example, fluorescent lights run very cool, while candle flames are warm. The human eye automatically compensates for these changes, but your camera could use some help. The camera needs to be calibrated based upon the different lighting conditions. To change the white balance on your camera, you can use a Quick Control menu. The default value of Auto adjusts the camera automatically to the scene, and this works most of the time for most shooters. The Daylight option is best suited for clear skies, about 5200 degrees Kelvin. Use the Shade option if your subjects are in daylight, but under the shade, like a tree. The Cloudy preset is useful for things like daylight, but under overcast skies, or twilight periods when the light is changing, and this is about 6000 degrees Kelvin. The Tungsten option is best when shooting under traditional lightbulbs. These run about 3000 degrees Kelvin. The…
