Understanding and switching between metering modes

- In order to get a good exposure you need to ensure accurate metering. Most of the time your camera will get it right, but you can switch metering modes to help it out in tricky lighting situations. The most common method is evaluative metering, which produces natural results in most situations. The camera decides the correct exposure automatically to match the scene. If the background is really bright consider partial metering, the camera favors a zone in the center of the screen that's about eight percent of the viewfinder area. The spot option looks at a very small area, about three and a half percent of the frame. This is really only useful if you wanna be very specific on what's being used to set exposure. Lastly, the center-weighted average metering method evaluates the whole scene, but heavily favors the results from the center area.
