Exposure lock

Exposure lock

- If you're shooting a subject and want to recompose the frame, you can use the auto exposure lock button. This is useful when shooting things like portraits or panorama photos, because by locking exposure and focus, you can move the camera without changing either exposure or focus. First, focus the subject. The easiest way to do this is to press the shutter button half way down. The exposure setting will also be displayed when the camera has successfully metered the scene. Then, press the auto exposure lock button. The AE lock icon shows up in the viewfinder to show that the settings you have are locked. Every time you press the button, the current settings will be locked in place. To reuse the AE lock, keep the AE button pressed down, holding it usually with your thumb as you shoot. Then press the shutter release button to take another photo.
