- The Raspberry Pi can only send a signal of 3.3 volts and of limited direct current. Larger voltages or larger currents will destroy the Raspberry Pi. Yet, the world is full of higher voltages. Lamps, motors, and other household appliances all take more than three volts. So, how do you bridge from the Raspberry Pi to the real world? The answer is, transistors.
