Remove hum and line noise

- [Instructor] Another common problem that shows up in audio recordings is hum and line noise. In North America, electrical systems run at 110 volts at a 60 hertz frequency. Electricity in Europe runs at 50 hertz. Those frequencies of 60 or 50 hertz are in the audible range, and can show up in recordings, often due to poorly shielded cables or through amplifier noise. Let's take a look at a couple of modules that can help us eliminate or reduce these types of sounds. I've opened up a file called Guitar Hum, let's listen once. (electric guitar) So even just looking at the histogram right now, you can tell there's a hum. Now we can see these bright bands that indicate the sound of the guitar, notice how they correspond to the waveforms. But running along the entire length here at the bottom we have these long, extended bands. Now if I right click the frequency scale over here, I can change this view to extended log. So we can see that a little bit better. And you can see this band right…
