In traditional Markdown the # and ## symbols are used to denote headings and subheadings, respectively. RMarkdown presentations utilise these symbols to denote new slides, the number of #'s in the heading has no effect other than in the "table of contents" display within the slidy template that is displayed with the "C" key.
