What is a descriptive BRFSS analysis?

- [Instructor] This lecture is going to explain specifically what is meant by a BRFSS descriptive analysis. First, I want to share with you how I conceptualize approaching a BRFSS analysis. I divide them into two main types, descriptive and analytic. This section will describe the descriptive approach. In the next section, we'll describe the analytic approach. Descriptive analysis just describes the rates in the population. Only it's not so simple, because remember, the CDC has a very complicated sampling approach. The goal of the sampling approach is to be able to weight the final data set out to make a population-based estimate. In fact, I'm literally talking about using the data fields present in the data set called the weight fields. Just to quickly remind you how weighting works, I'm going to show you how I weight the various components of the final grade I give in the statistics class I teach at Laboure College in Milton, Massachusetts.
