Regression interpretation review

- [Narrator] In this video, we will start with a review of regression interpretation. So in regression, we are trying to predict a dependent variable, y-hat, using data that has x's and y's in it. So here's an example of a y-axis, and as I said, our data set has different kinds of x's that we can use to do this. So y could be our systolic blood pressure and x's could be different things that might predict systolic blood pressure, like age. In this simple explanation, we are only looking at one of those x's. So let's say someone was age 25 and age was x, and they had a systolic blood pressure of 130 MMHG and that was their y, it would literally be plotted like this. Let's pretend we plot a few more data points, then ask our software to estimate the best fitting line between all the points. For each x, it fits a line and comes up with the slope. Also, you see that every line also spears through the y-axis somewhere; that's the y-intercept. All the x slopes use the same y-intercept. So…
