Introduction to the course

- Hello and welcome to this descriptive Health Analytics in R course. My name is Monica Wahee and I'll be your guide. Here's what this course is going to cover, chapter one will explain the data set we're going to use for our healthcare analytics, the behavioral risk factor surveillance system, or BRFSS. In order to do healthcare analytics it's first necessary to completely understand the provenance and attributes of your health data set. Chapter two will explain how to prepare for the analysis. This involves setting up your data dictionary and identifying your confounders. Basically, you're designing your analysis through designing your Metadata. In chapter three we'll turn to R and begin by reading in data and applying exclusions. Chapter four will begin with an explanation of how to generate analytic variables and also walk you through developing an analytic data set. In addition, we'll review variable distributions. Then chapter five will cover how to conduct a basic descriptive analysis and complete table one. Oh and also explain what I mean when I say table one. Chapter six will explain first how to use weights in a descriptive analysis. And then we'll show you how to do bivariate tests. If you don't know what bivariate means we'll cover that here too. Finally, I'll conclude the course with some parting thoughts. Thank you for your interest in this course, I hope you enjoy it.
