Installing R
- [Instructor] The first obvious step to working with R is to get R and install it on your own computer. Fortunately, R is free and it's opensource. And it's really easy to get. All you need to do is to go to The R Project website. That's at r-project.org. And when you get there you'll see that one of the first links is right here. It's to download R. You click on that and it gives you the choice of a number of different mirrors, or a bunch of different servers that have the same information. There's really no reason to use anything other than this very first one, the cloud one, which automatically redirects you to whatever's closest. Click on that and then depending on your operating system, choose one of these three options. If you have a Windows computer, then you'll want to click on this one that says, "Install R for the first time." This one is quick and easy. If you have a Mac, like I do, you click on this one. And then you come down to the package and download that. And it installs like any other software that you have. And if you're running a Linux computer, I'm going to assume that you know what you're doing and you don't need me to walk you through it. But whichever approach you use, whatever operating system you're using, it's easy to download and install like any other software you have. And then you'll be ready to start using R.
