I've met hundreds of IT and BI professionals that have data science books on their nightstand and that have spent months or even years cross-training on their own time and at their own expense. And here's someone that knows your business, knows your industry, and even knows your data, but when they approach their team managers, they are generally discouraged from applying because they don't have the requisite experience on paper.
