- Welcome to chapter one, section five. In the last section, I went over a descriptive approach to analyzing BRFSS data. Now, I will describe the analytic approach. This lecture will start by explaining that there are two ways to approach analysis of the BRFSS data set. We will focus on the descriptive approach in this course. I'll also explain how different professions use the BRFSS data and how it has different value in different settings. In the last lecture I explained to you what a descriptive analysis is and that we are going to do one in this course. In this lecture, I'll cover an analytic approach to the data through a cross-sectional analysis, which is covered more thoroughly in the other course and I'll also comment on the ethical use of BRFSS data. I described in the previous lectures how the government uses the BRFSS data to generate state-based rates of conditions and risk factors.
