- I recently asked a close friend and colleague of mine to comment on the role of the chief analytics officer in the importance of maintaining the analytics portfolio. He made the following bold claim. He said, "A good CAO "is an analytics portfolio manager." I think he's right about this, but there are some practical complications. First, only a small number of organizations use the title of CAO. The healthcare industry and Wall Street have embraced this title, but most industries have not. Chief data officer, or CDO, is more common. But for me, CDO is a bit different. It's about data governance and not quite the same as a CAO. But there are simply more organizations with the CDO title than CAO. Here's the bottom line.
