Applying the first exclusion
- [Instructor] In this movie first I'm going to tell you who I am going to exclude from the data set philosophically and how I decided that. Then I'm going to show you how to apply the first exclusion and document the results of that. So the goal of what we're going to do in this part of the chapter is to remove all the rows in our data set we don't need. We don't need anyone who is not a veteran because our sub-population is veterans. We also can't use anyone who doesn't have a valid measurement of the exposure, which is alcohol drinking, and the outcomes, which are sleep duration and asthma status. Now just to be clear, we are only keeping the yeses for veterans, but when it comes to exposure and outcome, we keep the yeses and the nos. We keep everything except unknowns, so our big exclusions should come first, kicking out all the non-veterans. But then we also need to kick out the veterans who don't tell us about their alcohol habits, their sleep habits, or their asthma status. Now…
