Join Gordon Luckett for an in-depth discussion in this video Exploring polygon layers, part of Learning QGIS (2015).
- Polygon layers have both lines,…the edges of the polygons, and fills,…that color the inside of the polygon.…Exploring the edge and fills can help…to add these types of layer to your map…without hiding the layers underneath.…Let's try that in QGIS.…First, we're going to put a raster file…underneath the map.…So, expand your raster folder…in your exercise files and add the 452D_ecw.…So double click on that.…Make sure you choose the UTM…zone 10 coordinate system and click OK.…So there's the raster file we're going to be looking at.…
Next under shape file, let's double click on…the Buildings shape file and also on the Parcels shape file.…Let's move the Parcels beneath the Buildings…by dragging, dropping it in the layers legend.…So you'll see raster at the bottom, Parcels,…and then Buildings.…First we'll change the Buildings style,…so double click on Buildings in the layers.…In the Simple fill, we're going to change the border…to be No Pen, so, under Border style…we're going to turn the edge off.…So now you'll see they're just polygons without an edge.…
