- Creating data from scratch is one of the best features…of QGIS.…It is easy to create a new layer and digitize data…to that layer.…First, let's add some layers to our project…for context.…Under the Raster directory,…add the 452 DECW to our map.…We'll choose UTM Zone 10 as a coordinate system.…Once we've done that, let's add the Road Centerlines shape…to our current drawing.…Zoom to the bottom corner of your Raster.…Our first layer we're going to create is the potholes.…
So under Layer, Create Layer, New Shape File.…It will be a Point Type, not Line or Polygon,…so we'll choose that.…We're going to remove the Automatic ID Attributes…at the bottom, so let's click that, Remove Attributes.…And it's going to be pothole ID, so PH_ID,…that's a pothole ID.…Make sure we're choosing Whole Number,…and Add it to attributes.…The net thing we're going to do…is add in the pothole Type.…And that pothole Type will be actually Text…and make sure that it's at least 80 characters long,…so we can put a nice description in there.…
And hit Add to attributes.…
