- [Instructor] Here where I live in Utah, I can see the world's largest copper mine from my kitchen window. Actually, you can see the Bingham Canyon Mine, better known as the Kennecott Copper Mine, from pretty much anywhere in Salt Lake County. I mean, it's several miles across. You can even see it from a NASA satellite photo like this one. Now, mining is hard. If the things you wanted were sitting there right on top of the ground, like watermelons, you wouldn't have to dig up so much dirt to get the valuable things that are hidden. The same thing is true in data mining, except now, instead of looking for copper, we're looking to find the signal that's hidden in the noise of the data. We're trying to find the meaningful and actionable patterns in the randomness, but there are a few things you need to be aware of.
