Introduction to ITOps

- [Instructor] Any organization that uses technology to run their business will have an IT organization. And because they are using technology on a large scale, they'll also have a department for IT Operations, or ITOps, for short. ITOps refers to a set of processes and services that are managed by the IT organization to deliver technology services. ITOps typically serves internal employees, as well as external customers who use their organization's services. But what are some of the key functions of ITOps? Well, essentially, it is the planning, deployment, and maintenance of the organizations hardware and software assets. They set up laptops, install business software, and deploy networks within an office or at a data center. They do this both for technology that is deployed on individual clients like laptops, as well as services that are deployed in a data cluster. ITOps also takes care of monitoring the deployed technologies, ensure service levels, and measures resource utilization. They estimate expected service load and create capacity to manage these loads. Service help desk is another service that the ITOps do. They help solve problems and assist with technical knowhow. When incidents happen, like service outages, they take care of the incident management life cycle. Incident management involves first triaging the problem to understand the symptoms, discovering root causes, determining fixes for the problem, and finally, deploying the required fixes and testing for resolution. One of the top functions of ITOps is to ensure the security of hardware, software, networks, and data. They design and enforce policies and checks to ensure that the organization's assets are not compromised, and user's privacy is protected. Now that we understand what ITOps does, let's quickly go through its top goals. Their first focus is to ensure customer satisfaction by making sure that services supported by them are always available and usable. They want to minimize the time taken to resolve issues when they happen. Minimizing costs is another key area of focus. This is a goal that conflicts with other goals and need to be planned prudently. Additionally, ITOps focuses on improving the performance of IT services, including software and networks. Finally, they want to ensure the security of all the organization's security assets and user's privacy. What are some of the challenges for ITOps? We will review this in the next video.
