Facter
- [Instructor] In this video, we'll look at Facter. Facter is the tool that Puppet uses to gather facts about a node, in order to figure out what needs to done on that node. Facter is a standalone tool, so you can use it in other scripts, but it's bundled with Puppet because they're so closely integrated. First, let's try running Facter from the command line. F-A-C-T-E-R. Make sure you spell it with an E-R. The command factor, F-A-C-T-O-R, is used for factoring numbers and is built in to most Linux distributions. If you type facter and don't see any response, there's a good chance you typed O-R instead of E-R. As you can see, we can figure out the factors of numbers. This could be useful but it's not what we're looking for in this case. Hit control + c to quit that. As you can see, Facter spits out a lot of information by default.
