Replacing a resource with someone less experienced
- Say someone you assigned can't work on a task, and the only person who's available isn't as experienced. Chances are the new person is going to need more time to get the job done. In Project, you can replace a resource and change other aspects of the assignment at the same time. To see how this works, let's head to the task for Roughing in HVAC. When I look at this task, I've got Pearl Davenport and Karyn Reese assigned to the task. You can see that in the Resource Names column and you can also see it in the Task Form when I select the task up in the Gantt Chart. Well, it's Karyn Reese who isn't available to work on the task. Let's start by seeing who we can replace her with. Now to make sure I'm in the Gantt Chart view and the on the View tab, choose Resource Sheet. Well, I want to see the resources who are working in the HVAC group. The easy way to do that is in the Group column. Click the down arrow, turn off Select All, and just turn on HVAC.
