When to intervene

- It's not always smooth sailing for every project. From time to time, there are situations where benefits we forecast will be derailed and we need to find out why. You'll need to be able to spot the problem, understand the possible reasons and offer a solution. One problem is that planned early benefits are not being achieved. If your project is delivering incrementally or running a pilot, then there should be early achievement of benefits. There are a number of reasons behind this such as products delivered don't work, in which case the solution is to get products fixed and working as quickly as possible. Another reason is that products were poorly defined and needs have not been met, in which case the solution may be to stop the project and reassess the requirements. A final reason is that the products are being delivered late and possibly at a higher cost. This results in a delay in benefits achievement.
