- I get asked a lot of questions about how to track the progress of the work in an agile project. Well, to actually track a project, you must first have a plan. A common myth, however, is that agile projects don't need plans and, therefore, it becomes impossible to track what they're actually doing against what they should be doing. First of all, let's clarify that myth. Agile projects do have plans, however, the formality and the format of these plans will differ depending on the teams on the project. At high-level, during the definition stage of the project, it's important to have a baseline plan that outlines what scope is included in the project. These plans rarely include detailed activities, dependencies, and who is doing what as this will be planned by the teams just prior to development.
