Release planning

- When done well each release has something valuable and exciting to offer users. So how do we plan releases to make this happen? Well first we need to look at the needed inputs to release planning. We start with the product vision and strategy, the roadmap, and high-level epics and user stories for our release features. It also helps to have a good start on the epics and user stories high-level acceptance criteria. Next we need to think about who needs to be part of release planning, or be in a release planning meeting. I like to think about it terms of the product owner and technical lead, as well as other team members that can contribute. It's important to think about who is needed to make the commitments and decisions. This release planning meeting should be high-touch and facilitated using techniques with lots of flip charts, sticky notes, markers, and visual cues.
