- There are a few industries with projects as complicated and influenced by regulatory controls as the medical field. Healthcare projects require intense planning, close scrutiny, and a considerable amount of foresight. As more and more of these complex projects roll out across the globe, learning how to effectively manage them is an ambitious undertaking. During my 30 years of project management experience, I've been responsible for delivering technology services for hospitals and assisted with quality management in the medical device industry. Along the way, I've learned a lot about what to do and what not to do when managing projects in the healthcare environment. In this course, I'll take you through some of the most challenging aspects of setting up and managing healthcare projects, including stakeholder management, handling facility constraints, and dealing with regulatory concerns. In addition, I'll discuss approaches for setting project goals and working through the scheduling details that can make or break your healthcare project. We'll touch upon installing or modifying information technology systems, and tool management, such as x-ray or other advanced technical machinery. I'll guide you through a series of challenges that you can review. You can then compare your approach with the recommendations I provide. Healthcare has been defined as the field concerned with the maintenance or restoration of health of the body or mind. This definition is broad, and so are the initiatives that can be considered healthcare projects. In this course, I'll discuss a number of project types under the banner of healthcare projects, but they all involve dealing with the processes or facilities that are part of the maintenance or restoration of health. Given the diversity of projects and facilities that are involved in healthcare projects, we won't engage in a deep dive in any project type. Instead, we'll talk about the notable issues and planning considerations you should focus on as you tackle your own healthcare projects. Managing healthcare projects is an important endeavor with the potential to produce great benefits for your community. I'll share hints and tips to help you succeed in managing healthcare projects.
