- A machine that learns for itself and adapts based on new information constantly, is this a dream? No, it's today and the future of information systems. Currently, and in the past, we've spent a lot of time defining all the rules, decisions, and logic to explicitly program in computers. With machine learning, the computer learns the rules, logic, decisions, and patterns all on its own by adapting to the circumstances in data in real time based on data and some predefined outcomes as well as ongoing feedback that humans give computers on how it's doing. In a call center, for example, let's say we wanna use machine learning to predict and route calls. We would start with a dataset of customers and data about each customer and their calls. This might include data about the customer attributes, touchpoints with the customer, and their various call history data.
