- Traditionally, we look at business processes to understand the user interactions, handoffs, data flow, and system flows. We draw out the current state and desired future state processes and do a gap analysis. We also analyze the people, workflow, data, and rules of the process our users and systems use. All of this work leads us to creating a high quality requirements document. In a digital transformation, we still use business process skills but in a different way. Our focus is more outside in, focused on the customer. We refine our focus on two pieces. First, we use our business process modeling and analysis skills and techniques to analyze how to get to a better experience overall for the customer, looking at the customer touchpoints, where the customer pain and frustration is, and which steps are adding value for the user.
