Key considerations for PMO leaders
- As someone who is setting up or evolving a PMO you should always be mindful of these eight nuggets. The PMO must align itself to the strategies of its organization and update this alignment as the organization shifts its strategies. If your PMO is not in sync here, it will soon find itself becoming irrelevant to the needs of its organization. So if a software company wants to focus on innovation, then the PMO should identify and deliver core projects that enable innovation. Or if a manufacturing company wants to eliminate production of some of its merchandise, then the PMO should target executing projects that facilitate their discontinuation. The PMO can grow and evolve but there are limits. As a PMO leader, you should appreciate this. Be patient and once you've proven your PMO's worth go about pushing for your PMO's growth through the extent that your organization will accept it.
