How to assign accountability

- Benefits management activities simply won't happen by themselves. But benefits seem so far away and often don't even happen until long after a project is closed. So it's easy to see why little thought is given to who will be responsible for measuring and reviewing the project benefits, both during and after the project. And if benefits are not measured and reviewed, how will anybody know if the project is actually successful? You need to make sure benefits management responsibilities have been assigned to appropriate individuals in the project, and most importantly, that they are aware of the responsibilities they will have. Then, document the responsibilities so that there is no doubt for anyone what is expected from them and their limits of authority. Get the individuals involved to sign up and agree to their role. It's crucial that these roles accept that they will have continued responsibility post-project for reviewing, measuring, and reporting on benefits realization. Make…
