Emergent benefits
- So how do we actually optimize and identify emergent benefits? One option is by adopting a more agile approach to project delivery. Incremental delivery and a strong focus on lessons learned make it much more likely that opportunities can be spotted early to make changes and optimize benefits realization. Another option could be to use a scout-and-beacon approach. Appoint people who can scan the environment on a regular basis looking for potential opportunities, these are the scouts. And the beacons, often the business change managers, will clearly communicate that ideas are welcome and will be acted on if appropriate. Something that should always be considered is a frequent, transparent and ongoing dialogue with users. This will help identify and mitigate disbenefits, optimize existing benefits and identify new emergent benefits and opportunities to create additional value.
