Define a design mindset

- When you have a design mindset, you see the world in whole new ways. Quite frankly, you see a world that doesn't exist yet. Traditional design is problem focused. When we talk about a design mindset, though, we're not focused on problems anymore, we're imaging solutions. If the problem is I need to make a phone call when I'm away from home, the mobile phone is something of a foregone conclusion. One of the best examples of design thinking is the iPhone. The iPhone was released in 2007. Did you have a mobile phone before 2007? I know I did. Guess what it could do? Obviously, it could make phone calls. It could even text by pushing each digit a set number of times to get a specific letter to show on the screen. Oh, yeah, the screen was only for reading. You couldn't touch it with your fingers. Now, think about what the first iPhone did to disrupt the mobile device industry. The screen was large. You could touch it. You could pan, scroll, and enlarge the image just using your fingers…
