Component 1: Functional
- Whenever you create a new department within a company, the first question that gets asked is what will it do. The first component of a PMO functional answers just that it helps define the function, role, and scope of a PMO. A PMO can be a standards-setting body or one that also enforces governance or a unit that offers services to manage and deliver projects, or lastly, an entity that serves as a strategy partner to other departments within the organization. This progressive order is necessary. Governance cannot exist without standards, and efficient delivery cannot be implemented without deliberate oversight. Let's take a look at each PMO function. A Standards-Setting PMO advises on required project management guidelines for the organization. Following these ensures consistency and introduces predictability in project delivery.
