- Agile began at a Utah ski resort in 2001 when a group of like-minded software developers got together to ski and do some problem solving. These developers already knew there were better ways to manage software development projects. During this short holiday, they hoped to find common ground among them on ways to solve those problems. From this meeting came the agile manifesto. This is how the agile manifesto starts. "We are uncovering better ways of developing software "by doing it and helping others do it." While their initial focus was narrowed to their own experiences, they actually stumbled upon a better way of working, not just in software development, but across the entire organization. In that light, let's consider the four supporting values they drafted. Individuals and interactions over processes and tools, working software over comprehensive documentation, customer collaboration over contract negotiation, responding to change over following a plan.
