Vulnerability management
- Vulnerability management is becoming highly important due to the exponential growth of the number of software and their versions to be maintained in an organization. Each software comes with the burden of various vulnerabilities that need to be addressed individually. Systematic tracking is critical to be able to minimize the impact of an obscure vulnerability to be exploited and leading to becoming a major security incident. Effective vulnerability management follows a process. The very first step of a typical vulnerability management process is to develop vulnerability management policies. Next is to discover the actual vulnerabilities. The discovered vulnerabilities then need to be analyzed and prioritized according to their risks. The higher priority vulnerabilities are mediated first and some vulnerabilities are simply documented and not mediated due to their relatively low risks.
