Using delay to add drumbeats

- Sometimes I'll get sent tracks to mix where the drum is like say, built off of a loop, or the beat never changes, and if I want part of the song to feel kind of different, I might just use a simple delay pattern to add a little rhythmic interest to that section. Here's a track I've got of my friend Paulie playing drums. (drums) So real simple, drums live in the studio. What I'll do for this kind of thing usually, is to duplicate the track. That's easier then applying automated delays that turn on and off, and I'm also able to visually see where this stuff is happening. So we might go, say, (drums) So let's go on that down beat, we'll have the drums come in. This gives you the visual perspective that you can have this modify in different parts of the song, and then we'll set a delay on this duplicated drum. I like using the EchoBoy by Soundtoys, it's real easy to use and I love the Tap feature, which a lot of our better plugin delays have offering here. So, there we go. (drums) And…
