- When you record audio into Pro Tools,…the time it takes for your interface to convert the audio…into a digital signal,…your computer to receive that input signal,…record it, process it, and send it back out to an output…is called latency.…Latency can be as low as zero…or as high as 50 milliseconds, and even up,…which is quite noticeable…and can be so distracting that it makes performing…in time difficult.…We'll look at why.…Let's go to the Setup menu,…and open the Playback Engine.…Here we can see that our hardware buffer size…is relatively low.…Let's drop it all the way down to 32 samples.…
I'm going to click OK,…and then I'm going to record enable my muted guitar track,…just so we can listen…to how much latency is coming through the track…with a buffer size of 32.…(guitar tune)…It's actually not bad.…Let's turn off record enable on this track,…and let's go back up to the Playback Engine.…Now, I'm going to set the hardware buffer size…to 1,024 samples.…Let's click OK, and then let's click…the Track Record Enable again.…
