Splitting a kick drum track into hi and low components for control

- [Voiceover] When you're mixing rock tracks, a lot of times, the kick drum track itself can be a little problematic and hard to control. One thing to keep in mind is that you have the high end component of the kick drum, the kind of attack. Listen to this and think about it. (drum component of "Love is Waiting") And you have the low end part. Obviously there's going to be a deep thump below that higher sound. You can hear it inside of the drum. In that recording, that mike's inside of the kick drum. We have the top and bottom end of this track. If you want more control over it, you can split these into two different tracks. We'll select the track. We'll duplicate mix. Make two copies, so we can go back and compare against the original. Mute the original. So let's take track number one, duplicate number one, I should say and do this simple equalizer. This track's gonna be a bottom end. Let's listen and adjust.
