- [Instructor] Many times, I'll be mixing from … a session where the guitarist is playing rhythm … at some points in a song, but then switching … to lead at other spots. … I like this approach when tracking, … as this is likely the way the band plays live, … and we can keep that similar energy flowing, … but when I'm mixing, I frequently find … I need more control over the levels … and effects between these parts. … Here's a track where we have a rhythm guitar part … that switches to a simple lead in the middle … and then back to rhythm. … You can visibly see that the lead is louder … than the other parts of the take. … (rock music) … And it comes back out here. … (rock music) … So the first step is to create a new track … to place the solo in. … That's quite simple. … Label it. … All right, and then we'll simply cut the solo … out of the track, I'm just going to do it roughly. … And drop it into the new track. … Now I'm going to zoom in a little, … and massage these edits. … Start right there. …
