- [Instructor] Sometimes conventional panning just isn't enough, and the song calls for something a lot more dramatic. Panning outside the speakers may be just the thing you need. Now let's look at how to set that up. First of all, let's listen to the song just the way it is without any of the dramatic panning. ♫ Before a word is spoken ♫ So you won't cry - [Instructor] Now I'm thinking about the piano. About making that nice and wide. But first of all, let's just listen to it solo. (piano music) Now in this dramatic panning outside the speakers trick, the whole key on a stereo track is to flip the phase on one channel, and that's what we'd do if we had the ability. And certain digital audio workstations give you that ability. In Pro Tools and some other ones, you can't really do that. So for instance, I can't in visually go to the left channel or the right channel and change the phase or change the EQ or anything else. But there is a way we can do this.
