Modulating the strings

Strings and modulation go together like peanut butter and jelly. Sometimes a little chorus on a small string section can make it sound a lot larger than it is, and flanging on strings makes for a very dramatic effect. Let me show you how it's done. First of all let's listen to the strings just by themselves without any effect at all. (Music playing) Now these are artificial strings and they already have a chorus on them, so you can see it's in stereo and let's try a chorus plug-in and see what it does. Sometimes if you already have a chorus, putting a second one on doesn't do too much. Let's have a listen. (Music playing) It makes a little thicker. Let's hear what it sounds like in the track. (Music playing) It's very subtle at this, so let's go to something that usually sounds really good on strings and that's a Flanger. Let's have a quick listen.
