Mic’ing electric bass for pick sound

Mic’ing electric bass for pick sound: Real Recording School Weekly
Mic’ing electric bass for pick sound: Real Recording School Weekly

Discover how to capture the little plink or chime of an electric bass guitar string being played while also recording a bass amp in an adjacent room. An inexpensive small diaphragm mic can be pointed it at the picking hand. That bit of guitar-like attack adds a clarity to the picking. The mic sound is very thin, but it works. Check polarity of the mic recording and phase relationships to add definition you won’t get from a bass amp-only recording—it can add something unique, too.
