Importing MIDI

Importing MIDI files into a Pro Tools session is pretty straightforward, much like importing audio. In this video, I am going to show you two ways to import MIDI files. The first way is go to File > Import > MIDI. Now you can choose a MIDI file contained on any hard drive connected to your computer. In this case, I am going to choose the Mini Grand.mid--mid represents a MIDI file--and I'll choose Open. The MIDI Import Options dialog opens up, and you can choose where you want it to go, so whether you want to put it on a new track or just right into the Region List.

You can choose the location, whether you want it to start at the session starting, or spot or use of specific selection, and we can import the tempo map from the MIDI file, which I want to do, and I am going to Import the key signature. Because the cursor is at the very beginning of the session and we've chosen location selection, it's going to go right to the very beginning. So you see this MIDI region starts ...
