How to locate vocal plosives

- [Instructor] I find that no matter what I do when I'm tracking lead vocals for people, a few low end plosives sneak through. You know the popped Ps and the bumping Bs that sneak through every pop filter and blow out the microphone. Before I mix, I'll spend a moment looking for and eliminating these problem spots when working in a digital audio workstation. The easiest way I found is to use a spectral repair program such as iZotope's RX. Here we can see where the low end energy resides. The low fundamental of Erin's voice is obviously the brightest color here. (humming) The information below the lowest notes is basically unnecessary for the mix. Where you see the brightest vertical lines that extend from the low fundamental to the bottom of the scale is where you see the energy of plosives. (beating) You can hear that just barely.
