- [Man] When you're working in Pro Tools it's very important to understand which edit mode is active and how the current mode will affect any changes you make. Pro Tools has four main edit modes and they each have their purpose, but using the wrong mode at the wrong time can have unwanted consequences. Let's take a look at the basic operation of each mode. The edit modes are available at the top of the edit window toolbar right here, and we'll start with Shuffle mode. When you activate Shuffle mode you'll notice the button turns red. This is your visual warning that this mode may cause unexpected results. When I use the selector tool in Shuffle mode you'll notice that my selections are unconstrained either on clips or in empty space on a track. Edits in this mode cause audio to move or change positions. So if I make a selection here and then make an edit such as deleting, you'll notice that all the audio downstream from the edit slides over, closing up the gap. Now this can have…
